Overview

What Is Scope 3?

Scope 3 covers every indirect emission that sits outside a company's own operations and purchased energy — from the goods and services it buys to the way its products are used and disposed of.

For most organizations, Scope 3 represents over 70% of the total carbon footprint. It is also the hardest scope to measure, because almost none of the data sits inside the company's own systems.

Getting it right means working through suppliers, customers and logistics partners — and being explicit about which categories rest on primary data and which still rest on proxies.

Framework

The GreenGoldTech Scope 3 Framework

Five modules that take a value chain from a blank page to a measured, reducible footprint.

Category Screening & Materiality Assessment

Establish which of the 15 categories actually matter before spending effort on data.

  • Relevance screening across all 15 categories
  • Spend-based first pass to size each category
  • Materiality thresholds agreed with the business
  • Prioritised measurement plan

Data Collection & Quantification

Quantify each category with the best method its data will support.

  • Supplier primary data collection
  • Spend-based and average-data methods
  • Activity-based modelling where volumes are known
  • Methodology documented per category

Supplier Engagement & Data Quality Improvement

Move the value chain from estimates towards measured data, supplier by supplier.

  • Supplier surveys and onboarding
  • Data quality scoring per supplier and category
  • Capability building for smaller suppliers
  • Progressive shift from proxy to primary data

Reporting & Multi-Framework Disclosure

One Scope 3 dataset, mapped to every framework that asks for it.

  • GHG Protocol Scope 3 Standard
  • CSRD disclosure
  • CDP value chain reporting
  • SBTi and TCFD alignment

Reduction Strategy & Value Chain Decarbonisation

Turn hotspots into levers the business can actually pull.

  • Hotspot identification across categories
  • Supplier reduction targets
  • Procurement policy levers
  • Product redesign and circularity

Fifteen categories. One measurable footprint.

From first screening to value chain reduction.

Why GreenGoldTech

We Don't Deliver Estimates. We Build Value Chain Intelligence.

Anyone can produce a spend-based number. The work is making it accurate enough to set targets against and defend under assurance.

Every category screened

All 15 categories are assessed for relevance — including the inconvenient ones — and the screening logic is documented.

Suppliers engaged, not surveyed once

We build a supplier data programme that improves year on year rather than a one-off questionnaire.

Data quality is scored, not assumed

Every category carries a quality rating, so you know which numbers can carry a target and which cannot yet.

Documented for assurance

Methodology, sources and assumptions are recorded per category, ready for third-party verification.

Hotspots become levers

Measurement is the starting point: the output is a reduction plan tied to procurement, product and logistics decisions.

Get started

Get Scope 3 under control.

Let's start with a screening of all 15 categories, size what actually matters in your value chain, and build the measurement plan from there.
